SHEQ Manager

Location: Leicester, Leicestershire

Salary: £55,000 – £60,000 + Bonus & Benefits

Job Type: Permanent

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Engineering @ 365 is recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading advanced materials manufacturer based in Leicester , operating within highly regulated, high-performance sectors including Formula One motorsport, aerospace, and marine.

We are seeking an experienced SHEQ Manager to lead and shape the company’s health, safety, environmental, and quality strategy. This is a senior leadership role, responsible for driving compliance, operational excellence, and a proactive safety-first culture across all operations.

Key Responsibilities (Simplified)

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Lead and deliver the company’s SHEQ strategy.
  • Maintain and improve management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
  • Support senior leaders with SHEQ planning and decision-making.

Communication & Engagement

  • Deliver clear SHEQ communications (toolbox talks, briefings, dashboards).
  • Build a strong safety and quality culture across the business.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure all operations meet legal and customer SHEQ requirements.
  • Lead risk assessments (e.g., COSHH, manual handling, fire).
  • Recommend and implement risk controls and improvements.

Incident Management & Investigation

  • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

Audits & Inspections

  • Carry out internal audits and safety inspections.
  • Prepare for and lead external audits.
  • Manage corrective actions and continuous improvement.

Regulatory & Major Hazards

  • Ensure compliance with major hazard regulations (e.g., COMAH).
  • Maintain relationships with regulators and ensure policies are up to date.

Training & Team Development

  • Deliver SHEQ training and development programmes.
  • Coach and support the SHEQ team and wider business.
  • Build internal capability and succession plans.

Sustainability & ESG

  • Support environmental and sustainability initiatives.
  • Help with ESG reporting and performance tracking.
  • Drive improvements in waste, emissions, and resource use.

Reporting & Improvement

  • Monitor and report SHEQ performance to senior leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement across SHEQ systems.
  • Support business cases for safety and quality improvements.

Requirements

Essential:

  • NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 6, or equivalent professional safety qualification.
  • Proven experience leading SHEQ systems within a manufacturing or regulated environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001.

Desirable:

  • Chartered status (CMIOSH) or working toward.
  • Lead Auditor qualification for ISO standards.
  • Experience in high-performance sectors such as motorsport (F1), aerospace, or marine.
